Kicking off the summer season isn’t complete without a plate of President, Hugh Morrow’s BBQ at the annual Ruby Falls team picnic. This much-anticipated staff event has evolved to include this year’s full spread of food, games, door prizes and the opportunity for the team to kick back under the shade of the Clubhouse trees.
Hugh’s serious dedication to creating the ultimate BBQ feast necessitates an all-night session, tending to the car-size smoker filled with 26 pork butts. By morning, it is impossible to ignore the incredible, savory aroma. It becomes a timely reminder to teams arriving for their shift - that today is the day!
The May 31st picnic was a perfect (and delicious!) way to welcome new seasonal team members and kick off what promises to be an exciting and successful summer season. “We have an amazing team at Ruby Falls. Cooking for the entire group is one way of saying thank you to the folks who work incredibly hard every day to bring the wonder of the Falls to over 500,000 guests every year.”
Feeling his lucky timing, brand-new team member, Jordan Atkins enthusiastically shared, “this is a great first day” as he worked his way around the serving area. Kara Van Brunt, Director of Operations, reflected on the picnic tradition, “There is something special about getting the team together like this, it’s fun to see the camaraderie we share. I can’t think of a better way to welcome the summer.”
